twenty-four hour time  is the used extensively in the world except the USA. The US 1pm becomes 1300 hours or just 13:00 , 4pm is 1600 hours (or 16:00), etc, up to 23:59 ( 1159pm ). Midnite is then considered 2400 or 0:00. 1:20am is then 01:20 or " one hour, twenty minutes " and so on. Most schedules and timetables in the majority of other countries are listed in the 24-hour format, so if you are an American be careful when deciphering these !
